The LAD Bible Apologises for Cruel Wentworth Miller Meme After He Revealed Struggles With Depression

Wentworth Miller took to social media earlier this week to speak out against a meme that surfaced on popular Facebook page The LAD Bible. In a Facebook post the Prison Break star opened up about his battle with depression in 2010, revealing that he turned to food and put on weight as a result. The meme in question made light of a photo of Miller at the time.

“Today I found myself the subject of an Internet meme. Not for the first time,” he wrote. “This one, however, stands out from the rest.” 

Noting that he was “suicidal” at the time the image in question was taken, Miller went on to open up about his past struggle with mental health. “I’ve struggled with depression since childhood. It’s a battle that’s cost me time, opportunities, relationships, and a thousand sleepless nights,” he wrote.

"In 2010, at the lowest point in my adult life, I was looking everywhere for relief/comfort/distraction. And I turned to food. It could have been anything. Drugs. Alcohol. Sex. But eating became the one thing I could look forward to. Count on to get me through. There were stretches when the highlight of my week was a favorite meal and a new episode of TOP CHEF. Sometimes that was enough. Had to be. And I put on weight. Big f--king deal."

The LAD Bible has now responded with a post of their own, apologising for the meme. "We want to say that we've got this very, very wrong. Mental health is no joke or laughing matter", the post reads. "We certainly didn't want to cause you pain by reminding you of such a low point in your life. Causing distress and upset to innocent or vulnerable people is simply not acceptable".

In his initial post, Miller espoused forgiveness, remarking that he now views these photos of himself as a sign of his strength. "The first time I saw this meme pop up in my social media feed, I have to admit, it hurt to breathe. But as with everything in life, I get to assign meaning. And the meaning I assign to this/my image is Strength. Healing. Forgiveness. Of myself and others."

The LAD Bible acknowledged and applauded Miller for his response to the meme. "We applaud you raw honesty and promise to now cover such matters in the responsible manner our audience expects. Responding head-on to our post is something we applaud as it will help others through similar experiences in their lives".
