It’s been a great month for the female gaze. Genetically perfect human being Ryan Gosling got the ball rolling by proclaiming “women are better than men.” Now, hot felon Jeremy Meeks has resurfaced after a 13-week Instagram hiatus to share his first modeling pictures with the ready and waiting world.
Ever since Meek’s handsome mugshot went viral in 2014, we joined the state of California in anxiously tracking his every move. The smooth criminal (forgive us) was originally sentenced to two years of jail time for the illegal possession of a firearm, which led to his dreamy photo being posted on Stockton Police Department’s Facebook page, garnering hundreds of thousands of likes and ultimately allowing for his discovery by talent agency White Cross Management. (Yet another reason we stand firmly behind gun control.)
“I’m in a place where I will be able to provide for my family and really change my life. I never thought that everyone in the world would recognize me for my looks, so I feel extremely blessed and very thankful,” the 32-year-old has said of his looming modeling career. It’s nice to see an instance in which the prison system has (albeit unwittingly) fulfilled its intended role as a rehabilitative — not strictly punitive — center.
In the three months since his release, we haven’t heard or seen much from Jeremy, who’s now counting down the final days of his intermediary house arrest. However, it looks like the convict-cum-model will be on the market just in time for Fall Fashion Week.
Yesterday, Meeks’ Los Angeles and New York City-based management firm shared the basketball enthusiast’s first official headshot, captioning the photo, “Our #warriors fan @jmeeksofficial ready for tipoff.” Unsurprisingly, Meeks’ piercing blue eyes, soft lips and chiseled cheekbones look just as good in the clear light of day as they did under fluorescent prison bulbs (if not better). Does he not have Alexander Wang written all over him?
A clearly stoked Meeks reposted the snap, along with a second, topless shot (bless him) which the married father of two captioned, “Count down #housearrest #bayarea.” More like bae area.
