Day 6 of New York Fashion Week brought on more hits and a miss. Read on to see what the tFS forums thought of the shows.
The hits: Rodarte, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Herve Leger
THE HITS:
“I love the new direction of Rodarte. Less drapey knitwear and more tailoring. The muted color palette is a dream. I love the silhouettes and the double collars.” [Ives927]
“Most wearable collection I’ve seen from them… the nipped in waists and the full skirts below the knee worn with mid calf boots feel especially right for this moment. Extremely beautiful fabrics as well… A very good mix of references… from Victorian silhouettes to 40s jackets to 70s chic and 80s sweaters… a very mature and elegant show. Brava to the Rodarte ladies!!!” [softgrey]
“A gorgeous collection from [Rodarte]. A lot of the dresses have so much movement in them and the cuts on some of the hems are gorgeous. I love the kind of ‘farm’ and ‘prairie’ quality – the gowns that move from wheat to blue sky are gorgeous… I feel like the collection overall manages to achieve a rare balance between delicate or fragile and more hearty/rugged prairies. Gorgeous.” [Meg]
“The Americana/Prairie inspiration is a bit played out but they did it so beautifully and in such a different way than other designers that I can’t help but feel inspired by it as well. The fabrics are just so sumptuous. Everything they touch is beautiful. This is a far more commercial collection than any previous ones but it hasn’t diminished the artistry behind it.” [KaraDanielle11]

“The color scheme is perfect… and do not get me started on the hair. I could write a thesis on how delicious it looks.” [iluvjeisa]
“The first Marc by Marc collection in years that has interested me. Normally it looks so juvenile. This looks like it’s retaining the youth of M by MJ but including a bit more sophistication from the mainline.” [Meg]
“Now this is the 70s done properly, while still remaining innovative and modern. The plaids are divine, the colors rich and flattering, the cuts created such ease and movement. I’m swooning. This is my favorite Marc by Marc collections in years, so many pieces will be making a home in my closet next Fall.” [HeatherAnne]

“I think [the Herve Leger collection is] great this time. The DNA of [Herve Leger] is there but it [does not look] like every collection. There´s something new, something fresh and the sexiness is still visible.” [Versace-Goddess]
“Last year’s [collection] left me cold, this was pretty good I thought. I think Herve’s between a rock and a hard place because there’s only so much you can do with the bodycon dress, and if they branch out too much, it’s not Herve, but I think this collection shows there’s still a bit of mileage left in the bodycon dress.” [rosalynn]
“I think this collection was based on a really great idea—Herve Leger is famous for bandage dresses, Max Azria just put buckles on those bandages, as if each one were a belt. I absolutely loved the houndstooth which was so unexpected for Leger, especially one of the houndstooth dresses that was embellished with gold buckles down the side-seams of the dress and the tops of the arms, giving the effect that the model was outlined in gold as the light touched… Though Azria may not be challenging what Herve Leger is about, he definitely has some great ideas that are novel enough to appeal and to sell.” [Crying Diamonds]

The Miss: Vera Wang
THE MISS:
“I am not fan… it’s too bad that she used the same fabric over and over again.” [Zoely]
“Normally I feel like the only Vera fan around but this collection is just… bad. Not interesting, not inspiring, the lengths are awkward and unflattering and just feels like more of the same. Pass.” [Meg]
“There’s nothing wrong with this collection, but it’s clear that this doesn’t represent Vera’s best. With her new line, it’s clear her attentions would be, at best, divided, and this lackluster presentation shows signs of that.” [mikeijames]
