Lady Gaga Does Ladylike Glamour on the Cover of Harper’s Bazaar’s 150th Anniversary Issue (Forum Buzz)

Lady Gaga had almost done a disappearing act on the newsstand this year, only starring on the cover of V Magazine with then-boyfriend Taylor Kinney back in January and more recently fronting T Magazine to promote her new album, Joanne. She now makes an appearance on Harper’s Bazaar for its double holiday issue, which celebrates a landmark of 150 years in publication. Photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, Gaga does ladylike glamour as she conceals part of her face with her now-signature baby pink cowboy hat from Lack of Color on the newsstand cover (below).

But for Bazaar‘s momentous 150th anniversary edition, a few of our forum members couldn’t help but feel underwhelmed. “I wish they had done something different considering it’s an anniversary cover,” sighed liberty33r1b.

“It’s too much text on the cover. Without it, it would’ve been really nice,” narcyza added.

Also quick to show their disapproval was Miss Dalloway: “What a horrible and dated cover! Looks like one of those nightmares from the 80s! Badly, and too closely cropped, so let’s throw in a hat to take away even more from the cover. Oh, and add huge text layout to really drawn the image, worst cover of the year, and they had some real stinkers!”

MON wasn’t pleased either. “They could’ve done a better and more iconic cover with Gaga. She’s super flexible, easy to style. Yes, I get she has this cowgirl aura these days, but that can easily be turned into something iconic. And… you had Inez & Vinoodh! They had all the elements of having a stellar cover,” he pointed out in disappointment.

“I want to dislike the cover, but I can’t. Gaga seems to be a natural match for US Bazaar. But I wonder if their anniversary feature will be a travesty or will it be something that will make me buy two issues – because it might be 2016, but I’m still cutting stuff out of magazines. You can laugh at me if you like, but remember, I’m holding scissors,” shared tigerrouge.

Benn98 shared the same outlook. “Without a doubt their best cover this year. It does indeed look very memorable and iconic. Just the right amount of glamour and mystery,” he exclaimed.
