If you haven’t heard already, Riccardo Tisci is out at Givenchy and former Chloé creative director Clare Waight Keller is in. Though Keller’s first collection for the iconic French fashion house won’t be shown until October during Paris Fashion Week, her aesthetic and outlook for Givenchy’s future can be found in the newly unveiled “Transformation Seduction” campaign for Fall 2017. Also ousted was photographic duo Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott, in favor of the incomparable Steven Meisel, who captured rising stars Saffron Vadher, Meghan Roche and male models Elias Bouremah and Kolton Bowen (along with some feline companions) on location at a private manor house in New York City for the dramatic black and white images.

Surprisingly, the campaign received mixed feedback on our forums. “I really don’t like this, it could easily be shot by Hedi Slimane, it just feels flat, and insipid!” critiqued Miss Dalloway upon seeing the images for the first time.
“Not terribly impressed so far. We have seen the cat thing numerous times already and we all know Choupette did it better,” added Vitamine W.
“It’s sad that the cats look better than the actual models in this campaign. They must have had no budget,” wrote jj36.
Forum member anlabe32 wasn’t all too fond either, saying, “Nothing really special and I wouldn’t have thought Meisel shot it, just beautiful photographs. It’s a cleansing of the Tisci era, ready for Clare!”
Bertrando3 certainly wasn’t optimistic for Keller’s tenure. “I don’t like this at all. It looks flat! I love Meisel but these photos are not working, you barely see the clothes. These models are weak and the cat… NEXT!” he proclaimed.
Dodencebt, however, couldn’t have disagreed more: “As an indicator of what’s to come, I think it looks good. You can already tell that Clare’s Givenchy will be softer and more sensual, sort of like Riccardo’s beginnings at the brand. And Meisel? Yes, please.”
“I’m sort of excited if this is a teaser of CWK’s direction for the brand. It’s much more refined,” commented a delighted TaylorBinque.
