Vogue Australia June 2018 : Rebel Wilson by Nicole Bentley

Rebel Wilson Drowns in Fabric on Vogue Australia’s June Cover

You have to love a magazine that continuously supports its country’s homegrown talent and Vogue Australia is a shining example. We were served an array of diverse Aussie beauties back in April and a joyous Kylie Minogue kickstarted her 50th birthday celebration on the cover of last month’s issue. For June, the magazine selected Rebel Wilson, who looks pretty elated to be on the cover this month. Photographed by Nicole Bentley and styled by Kate Darvill, the Aussie actress was shot wearing an oversized Martin Grant coat worn over a voluminous Christian Siriano gown.

Given the volume of fabric, it was easy to predict the reactions from our forum members. “So depressing… even for winter. Magazines never know what to do with women who don’t have a model body,” kokobombon said.

“Most people don’t have a model body, yet social media has proven there are innumerable ways in which people with different body types can dress (up and down) and look amazing. But despite the endless oceans of inspiration available online, print magazines seem to cling to the old, tired methods of how they present different body types,” tigerrouge added.

Sharing the same sentiments was Benn98: “I hope Bentley just took this shot from afar and that they didn’t slim her down. But even that aside, it’s quite disappointing. Pose is not confident, styling is too much, and I don’t like the composition. As a hardcore Bentley fan, I’m quite frankly underwhelmed.”

“What a shame. Rebel is quite pretty and they could have done something great if they tried,” kenndale said.

“If only they did a better job on her face, she looks deranged,” maxlinden wrote.

“At least it’s a full body shot, too bad she’s drowning in fabric. I guess you can’t have your cake and eat it too. All this talk about body acceptance and magazines are still featuring full-figured actresses in close-ups or in big baggy outfits. Why can’t we just see her as she is?” GivenchyHomme asked.
