W Volume #8 : Gigi Hadid by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott

Gigi Hadid Channels Debbie Harry for W Magazine’s Volume #8 Cover

is slowly but surely getting back on our forum’s radar. The October issue featuring Cardi B was the first to grab our attention in 12 months and now, with the unveiling of Volume #8, W welcomes back model-of-the-moment Gigi Hadid. The magazine steps it up a notch for the holiday season with a Debbie Harry-inspired cover shoot, photographed by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott with Carlos Nazario in charge of the punk styling. Gigi is the spitting image of the legendary American singer, rocking Harry’s signature platinum blonde hairstyle, a smoky eye and a little black sequined dress from Saint Laurent.

The Debbie Harry reference is even more apparent throughout Gigi’s cover story — but not according to our forum members. “She looks like a 40-year-old actress. That hair doesn’t suit her,” liv4beauty said the second the cover came to light.

“The bleached eyebrows is not a good look for Gigi. Is it me or did they try to make her look like Kate Moss?” asked mikel.

Perickles was unable to catch the reference too: “She looks like Melania Trump!”

“She looks more like Dolly Parton than Debbie Harry,” laughed djowodjo30.

“I thought the Debbie Harry inspiration was quite clear?” Marc10 fired back. “I think she pulls this off quite well. Love the ed. Very Carine [Roitfeld]’s Vogue Paris!”

Also into the cover was badgalcrush. “I think Gigi looks great here, not the usual side of her we’re used to seeing and that how it should be,” she confessed.

TaylorBinque, however, was with the majority. “I forgot W still exists. I didn’t expect this cover to be good but this is worse than my expectation,” she said.

“Kill it with fire. Stop this mess of a magazine,” EstefaniaAbaddon declared.
