The British edition of ELLE has been a must on our reading list lately. Largely due to Farrah Storr dropping spectacular (and groundbreaking) covers with Alva Claire, Daphne Groeneveld, Ramla Ali and Michaela Coel. Lately, however, covers with Lily Collins and Dakota Johnson just haven’t quite hit the spot. Now with Storr’s departure, acting editor Alice Wignall selects Nicola Coughlan for the publication’s March 2022 cover. Captured by Meinke Klein, the Irish actress and star of Netflix’s hit series Bridgerton brings the drama showcasing a voluminous Molly Goddard creation courtesy of stylist Aurelia Donaldson.
The styling immediately came under fire. “A head and a foot in a sea of tulle,” voiced kokobombon.
“Cheap and ugly cover. Instead of celebrating her body, they had to hide her in a bunch of tulle…” echoed phungnam96.
“Someone at U.K. ELLE: ‘So Nicola Coughlan is great, but you know what is even better? FABRIC,'” joked Horizontina.

“I don’t like it,” declared marimy7.
“Weird cover image…” noted Xone.
“I usually quite like Meinke Klein’s work for ELLE, but this is very disappointing. There’s simply too much fabric, it seems suffocating,” aracic pointed out.
“My sentiment exactly,” replied vogue28. “The cover is a bit of an eyesore. You have to look close to see it’s Nicola Coughlan and even then she’s hard to find behind the mass of tulle. The colors are nice, but the cover image itself is atrocious.”
“To be fair and in ELLE’s defense, this is very her style… There is a lot of fabric for sure, but that’s the way I feel she is always dressed, it’s her style,” said honeycombchild.
