Christine Centenera continues to put her stamp on Vogue Australia, and is seemingly making it her mission to support homegrown talent in the process. Ever since Centenera took the helm of the Australian fashion bible, she has placed Aussie talents including Adut Akech, Troye Sivan, Margot Robbie, Tarlisa Gaykamangu and Kylie Minogue onto the mag’s front covers. Hanni Pham and Danielle Marsh of the South Korean girl group NewJeans are Centenera’s latest cover conquests, who both hail from Australia and cover the January 2024 edition. Via the lens of photographer Hyea W. Kang and with styling from Kalia Matthews, the K-pop duo huddle up in the cover shot dressed in looks from Gucci and Burberry.
Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:
“This issue should be special, because Vogue Australia has been without a good cover for FIVE years or more!” exclaimed DK92 the moment the cover struck.
“I am surprised how vibrant and fresh it is,” confessed crmsn.
“Nothing special. Pretty generic but the standards are low for this edition,” MON remarked.
Also extremely underwhelmed was forum member phungnam96, pleading: “Let this edition die, please!”
“Is this really what resonates with Australians?” asked blueorchid.
Not everyone, however, was left so dissatisfied. “I love it. Both are K-Pop it girls and Australian, so it makes sense,” voiced miyawaki.
“Not into K-pop whatsoever but I don’t mind the sight of this cover. I’m able to appreciate how clean and fresh the cover is, and I do like blacklit photography,” reasoned vogue28.
