It’s been confirmed that Hailee Steinfeld is the new face of Miu Miu, and she’s already been photographed for the label’s fall campaign. The 14-year-old True Grit star has been putting in appearances at some of this year’s most high-profile red carpets: her orange-and-pink striped Prada gown had Andre Leon Talley gushing (he dubbed her the “best-dressed” of the SAG Awards) and her Marchesa princess gown was a standout on the 2011 Oscars red carpet. Her busy awards show season was followed up with a fashion week debut in the front row of Miu Miu’s Fall 2011 show in March. Hailee’s sweetheart look may not be a good fit for Miuccia Prada‘s younger line, but the bigger issue here is that the teenage actress might be past her prime: will anyone really want to buy clothes from a girl that’s already hit puberty? How to be discovered by Victoria Beckham
Alice Greczyn, the face of Victoria Beckham‘s Spring line, was plucked up by Posh at a party in Malibu. When the Spice Girl-turned-designer spotted Greczyn frolicking in the sand, she approached the young girl and complimented her freckles. She summoned David Beckham over, and asked her beau to shoot a few impromptu test shots and the rest is a footnote in the annals of fashion history. The whole story is a teeny bit creepy: if a very tan, bony lady approached me on a beach and asked if her husband could take photos of my freckles, I would be pretty uncomfortable. But then again, I don’t have freckles. [MillionLooks]
Chanel’s Fall nail colors revealed
Since this Spring skipped its full-bloom and it’s only a matter of time before this season’s rain and gloom moves straight into dank heat and humidity of summer, there’s only one thing to look forward to: fall. Accordingly, we’ve finally got a sneak peek of Chanel‘s fall lacquers, and they’re worth getting excited about (picture below). There’s some early praise for Peridot, but I think I’m more of a Quartz girl. Thanks to UK-based nail artist Sophy Robson for the treat! [Fashionista]
Bare legs for Summer with a DIY exfoliant
Even though it’s still tights weather as far as I’m concerned, some day very, very soon (as I keep hoping), we’ll be able to ditch our stockings for pretty dresses and bare legs. But if you need a little boost of confidence before you get into the habit of baring your legs to the world, there are some easy at-home tricks that’ll help you get out of winter’s cover-up mindset. I’m a big fan of weirdo natural beauty routines, so BettyConfidential’s suggestion to mix together coffee grounds with coconut oil as a natural exfoliant is right up my alley. Because of the coconut oil, the mixture is bound to smell great and using coffee grounds will make me feel a little better about my over-the-top caffeine habit. [BettyConfidential]
Anna Wintour’s political consciousness
Anna Wintour filmed a PSA for for the HRC’s New Yorkers for Marriage Equality campaign. Wearing Prada, the Vogue ringleader got political: “As far as I’m concerned, the right to say ‘I do’ is as fundamental as the right to vote.” Since Wintour’s the queen of getting people to follow her preachings (her WSJ profile made the point that with Fashion’s Night Out, she’d essentially created a new city holiday), so it’ll be interesting to see what other fashion figures take her lead and film PSAs of their own. See her video below. [Styleite]
