Chalk Point Kitchen
The latest venture from entrepreneur and restaurateur Matt Levine, Chalk Point Kitchen is focused on delivering locally-sourced, seasonal, sustainable and organic produce via a multicultural menu. The staff is friendly, well-dressed and knowledgeable and, given Levine's background running hot spots, it's no surprise that it has quickly become a favorite of taste-makers. As an added plus, there's a downstairs lounge, The Handy Liquor Bar...oh, and that martini on the right is a kale martini.

Peacefood Cafe
A great casual date spot, Peacefood Cafe is a vegan restaurant opened by a former designer at Tihany Design, the design firm behind spots like Per Se. The quirky decor was modeled after an uptown apartment.
-
Beyond Sushi
While sushi snobs may scoff at the idea of vegetarian and vegan sushi, there's no denying the artfulness of everything that comes out of Beyond Sushi's kitchen. The to-go spot inside Chelsea Market uses a mix of red rice, short-grain brown rice, black rice, rye berries, hulless barley and pearl barley for its sushi and source ingredients from local vendors with a large amount coming from the Union Square Farmer's Market.
-
Margaux
While the latest restaurant from Sean MacPherson (of the Waverly Inn, The Bowery Hotel and The Jane fame), doesn't bill itself as a healthy restaurant, it boasts fresh, simply prepared and beautifully presented food, including grass-fed beef and farm fresh produce. With a lively atmosphere, dim lighting, outdoor space and a front bar/lounge, it's a perfect date spot.
-
Angelica Kitchen
One of the original restaurants for the health-conscious set, Angelica Kitchen is a reliable bet for simply prepared salads, sandwiches and the restaurant's signature "dragon bowls" (a mix of grains, vegetables and vegan protein), all served in a bare-bones space with mild prices.
-
Blossom
Up there with Angelica Kitchen as one of the pioneers of health-conscious dining, Blossom is a frill-free but upbeat vegan restaurant that serves innovative dishes like barbecue tempeh and beet marinated tofu.
-
Candle Cafe
Beware — this place smells like green juice. It's not someplace you want to go with a die-hard steak lover, but for a reliable list of macrobiotic vegetarian dishes, this is a safe bet and they also deliver.
-
Hu Kitchen
Inspired by Dr. Mark Hyman's The UltraMind Solution, Hu Kitchen is a paleo self-service eatery (with tables) serving up a wide variety of juices and smoothies, housemade kale chips, raw granola, housemade chocolate bars and a wide variety of prepared foods sold by the pound, all of which are made from meticulously-sourced produce. It also has a "Mashbar," where you choose from a selection of healthy toppings to go over a vanilla and chia pudding base. With plenty of hearty meat options, it's no wonder that this is the go-to spot for some of the most athletic bodies in NYC.
-
Pure Food and Wine
This pioneering raw-vegan spot will please die-hard raw-vegans as much as it will carnivores. Dishes are bursting with flavor and meticulously crafted with the highest quality ingredients — everyone from Bill Clinton to Gisele is a fan. Pure Food and Wine also has a beautiful outdoor space and a casual takeout offshoot, One Lucky Duck.
-
The Butcher's Daughter
Opened by Apothéke and Pulqueria co-owner Heather Tierney, The Butcher's Daughter is a small, airy vegetarian restaurant and juice bar (a far cry from the tacos and absinthe you'll find at her other two spots). For a look at some of the casual eatery's dishes, check out Instagram.
