There aren’t many things you can do for fun in New York City that don’t cost a pretty penny. But taking a tour of the city’s epic holiday windows is totally free and truly awe-inspiring. Just bundle up and head outside to burn those Thanksgiving calories. The major department stores have really outdone themselves this year with extraordinary holiday windows that make checking out brick-and-mortar stores IRL a real event.
And those aren’t the only windows you’ll want to take in. In a landmark move, the Fifth Avenue Association has decked out the windows of abandoned buildings that used to house Polo Ralph Lauren, Henri Bendel, Massimo Dutti and Tommy Hilfiger. The displays are designed to reflect “the romance of the city in high winter, with scenes of ice skating in Central Park and skyscrapers made of gingerbread.”

Bergdorf Goodman
In true high fantasy style, Bergdorf Goodman's windows boast a "Bergdorf GoodTimes" theme with each window featuring a different scene of revelry. Included in the intricate displays, which took nearly a year to put together, are elaborate neon signs, mosaic tiles and needlecraft.

Tiffany & Co.
After being sold in a $16.2 billion deal, Tiffany & Co. unveiled its glitzy windows inspired by the Gilded Age. The windows recreate a streetscape of 19th-century New York City townhouses along with looks inside these homes. Various scenes are depicted, like a dinner, couples dancing and exchanging gifts wrapped in Tiffany Blue and children playing with new toys.

Macy's
Macy's Herald Square unveiled its displays with fireworks, holiday music and elves. The theme this year is "Believe in the Wonder" and there are plenty of LED lights and 3-D objects on display. Each of the six windows takes viewers through a journey with Santa Girl as she embraces the spirit of the holidays.

Bloomingdale's
This year Bloomingdale's windows are "Out of This World." The windows were unveiled with singer John Legend performing songs from the expanded version of his first Christmas album. The galaxy-themed windows feature interactive components and robotics.

Saks Fifth Avenue
