Past winners, Basso & Brooke and Jena.Theo, shone at London Fashion Week, continuing to impress buyers and press with their work.
This season, the three finalists offered three very different aesthetics, showing great detail and technique in their work.
Alice Palmer showed a collection that heavily featured her background in textiles. Palmer became renowned for her work with knits during past presentations to small audiences, and that was surely what caught the eye of Colin McDowell and John Galliano, the creator and chairman of the competition, respectively.
Korean native Jade Kang took a much softer approach, and unveiled a draped collection filled with floaty chiffon dresses with structured underpinnings.
Galliano, who admitted this was his first front row experience, chose the winner of the evening. He spoke with great care when announcing that Corrie Nielson would take home the £100,000 prize.
Nielson’s collection was by far the most avant-garde. Her models were decked out in ballet pointe shoes, oversized jackets, and carefully buttoned trousers.
However, only time will tell whether Nielson will follow in the successful footsteps of previous winners.
