Peter Dundas is the first designer to successfully usher in a new era for Emilio Pucci. The brand’s iconic psychedelic prints adorn everything from skirts to scarves; however, no designer has been able to successfully match Pucci’s original creations. Reviving Pucci was crucial, and Dundas has done just that.
Like Christophe Decarnin did with Balmain, Dundas found inspiration in the house’s archives while creating a look for a new brand of customer. Shop Pucci these days, and you’re likely to leave the store with a fitted, beaded mini dress á la Roberto Cavalli. Long gone are the designs you’d expect to see at a pearls-and-passion themed Hamptons charity event.
The Spring 2011 rock-and-roll show delivered on the previous season’s promise of sex appeal. Plunging necklines, high hemlines, over-the-knee boots, and lots of lace made for a wonderfully high-energy collection.
Loose-fitting, Grecian dresses gave the collection a 70s vibe, especially with their floral patterns. Boho fringe, super skinny pants, and even-shorter hot pants were all woven in with updated Pucci prints. Many of the prints were scaled down in intensity of color (giving the collection a more fall feel), so as not to overpower the skin-baring silhouettes.
The rich fabrics and embroidery combined with light, flowing caftan-like dresses made for a sexy, but tough collection. When combined with the designer bathing suits, Dundas’s collection gave the Pucci woman her complete summer wardrobe – a woman not afraid to show off her body.
