Fashion industry denizens around the world are preparing for the ‘big four’ fashion weeks that make up mainstream fashion month, but after Berlin and before the rush of New York Fashion Week, comes Copenhagen, the largest fashion week in Scandinavia and a great indicator of trends in unconventional fashion. With over 35 presentations and a handful of trade shows, Copenhagen Fashion Week has been steadily attracting more attention since a dependable flow of enviable talent has been spotted in the Danish capital.
Following the annual “Walk In Style” event staged by Ecco as a kick-off party for the week, standout shows have included David Andersen, who launched his womenswear collection in an IMAX movie theater alongside a 3-D fashion film, and Rützou, whose daywear and relaxed separates were a welcome break from the unusual.
Having established itself as a ripe market for avant-garde talent, Copenhagen has nurtured the unorthodox by supporting designers such as Nom de Plume who caused a stir this week with their out-of-the-box Japanese-inspired menswear. More recognized labels such as By Malene Birger, Bruuns Bazaar, and bARBARA Ì gONGINI also shared the schedule with fan favorites such as Henrik Vibskov and Stine Goya, resulting in a pool of talent that demonstrates that the ones to watch this year might be showing before the big rush.
