You’d be forgiven if your thoughts turned to your spring wardrobe while watching Rebecca Taylor‘s Fall 2011 fashion show at Lincoln Center. It’s becoming clear that the bright colors we’re seeing for spring/summer aren’t going into hibernation come fall.
Magenta and cobalt gave Taylor’s wearable dresses and separates energy. But it was the softer, more muted tones in the collection that stood out to me – a few gray, nude, and neutral knits with modern geometric prints. The dreamy dove grey hand knit cable sweater paired with a patched flannel wrap skirt and later a cobalt melton wrap skirt, as well as a lilac skinny rib sweater dress, were some favorites that will slip easily into many wardrobes. They were far preferable to the overabundance of “star flower” embellishments and organza trousers. Trousers should have weight, especially for fall/winter, and these frothy garments seemed outside reality.
