Highlights from day 6 of New York Fashion Week:
Pamella Roland
Pamella Roland may perhaps be best known now for designing the gold sequined jumpsuit that Lindsay Lohan wore to the 2010 MTV Movie Awards when no fashion house wanted to lend her one of their designs, but the designer deserves a closer look beyond that unfortunate look (and pairing!) Sure, her collection this season felt somewhat jumbled and could have used some editing to avoid feeling repetitive, but there were some beautiful staple gowns in the collection. Fur, literal animal prints, and painterly cocktail dresses all popped up in the show as well, working with some of the trends we’ve been seeing so far this season.

Narcisco Rodriguez
Narcisco Rodriguez is known for his sleek, minimalistic designs and judging from his Fall 2011 collection there is a good reason why. The pieces had a very architectural feel using geometric lines and slight color blocking in the overcoats and dresses. Pebble color trousers were worn with oversized overcoats with bold lines and occasionally small amounts of fur trim. The look was elegant but not overdone.

Diesel Black Gold
Though it’s still a relatively new brand (it was started in 2007), Diesel Black Gold always puts on a star-studded show. This season brought out Vanessa Hudgens, Chace Crawford, Wyclef Jean, Anna Dello Russo (dressed in, appropriately enough, all gold) and Carine Roitfeld’s son, Vladimir Roitfeld. Fall 2011 marks exactly one year since creative director Sophia Kokosalaki took the helm at the brand and she proved once again that she is the perfect Diesel fit. The designer’s clean, but edgy style is exactly what the brand, still best known for denim, needs to keep itself relevant in today’s cluttered market.

Herve Leger
Herve Leger bandage dresses are staples at this point – an impressive feat given that the only thing harder than pulling off one of the dresses is effortlessly slipping into or out of one (a person could easily use four hands). It’s near impossible to come across a red carpet or go to a New York hot spot without spotting at least a handful of Herve Leger looks, and the celebrities sitting front row at this season’s show, which ranged from Leigh Lezark to Karolina Kurkova, reflect the surprisingly wide array of women Herve Leger appeals to.
