Prada Fall 2011 Runway Review

A dropped waist, mod and 20s silhouettes, Yves Saint Laurent-inspired prints, plays on proportion via dainty oversized buttons and unexpected handbag dimensions, boldly contrasted textures, sportswear-inspired accessories (think an aviator-style cap that later morphed into fur swim caps and ski goggle-like sunglasses), and models clutching onto their handbags as if they were school girls holding their books, made for a memorable – if gimmicky at times – Fall 2011 Prada collection.

Quirks of handbags, colored snakeskin boots, and plastic scale dresses aside, there was much to love in the lineup of chic Mondrian-esque day dresses and 60s swing coats. Above all, however, it’s impressive that Miuccia Prada is able to reference retro trends and shapes, but give them a modern, even at times futuristic, sensibility.
