NY Fashion Week and Fashion’s Night Out Preview

Even more good news? Fashion’s Night Out (FNO) will be back for a third time, allowing everyone to get in on the excitement. Taking place on September 8 to coincide with the first official day of New York Fashion Week, this year will boast an online component.

Claustrophobic shoppers (like myself) or those that won’t be in an area where FNO events are taking place can rejoice, because this year online Meccas like Net-a-Porter and Shopbop will be participating in FNO via virtual events. Further, the discerning taste of Vogue editors and other notables will be on display with custom sets for Polyvore, which will begin appearing on August 15 to drum up hype for the worldwide event.

Back in April, Anna Wintour (who spearheads the project) released a statement about the upcoming event: “We’ve come a long way in three years, and thankfully, the fashion industry is much healthier than when we started in 2009, but it could always be better. We’re very proud of the excitement and level of traffic the initiative has inspired over the last two years, and we are eager to see the kinds of events retailers will create to turn all that wonderful enthusiasm into even greater sales this year.“

In a sign of dedication to the initiative and to show support in wake of the tragic earthquake, Wintour and the international Vogue editors be attending Tokyo FNO. Wintour, Emmanuelle Alt, Franca Sozanni, and others will fly to Tokyo on November 4.

While rumor has it that there won’t be a fashion show extravaganza this year, Page Six has confirmed that the cast of Glee will act as spokespeople for FNO. Glee stars Lea Michele, Dianna Agron, Cory Monteith, Chris Colfer, Darren Criss, and others will appear at retail locations across the country. The gossip column reports that the partnership was brokered in part by Bee Shaffer, an associate managing producer with Ryan Murphy Television, the Glee creator’s production company, and Wintour’s daughter.

While I personally would have rather seen some fashion designers act as spokespeople for FNO, I imagine Lea Michele and co. will drive much traffic into retail shops and in the end, that’s what it’s all about. For a preview of what’s to come, check-out the videos posted here.
