Last night the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, Los Angeles presented their highest industry accolades at the annual Britannia awards. Hosted by Alan Cumming, the evening’s attendees included Helen Mirren, Robert Downey Jr, and rising star Felicity Jones amongst others and honored talents such as Helena Bonham Carter, for British Artists of the Year, and Harry Potter director David Yates for Excellence in Directing.
While nowhere near as famous as the Oscars or the London BAFTA Awards, The Britannia awards, organized by BAFTA Los Angeles, looks to celebrate excellence in film and television and this year they celebrated British fashion as well.
In addition to the evening’s awards ceremony, the organization celebrated British Fashion with its first British Designer Showcase as a part of the silent auction. The auction, which benefited BAFTA Los Angeles’ ongoing education, scholarship, community outreach, and archival projects, featured one look, including accessories, from designers such as Stella McCartney, Temperley London, Roksanda Illincic, and high street favorite Reiss amongst others.
“We are delighted to have assembled, with help from our members collaborating with the fashion industry, an outstanding array of established and up-and-coming British designers to give our guests and members the chance to bid on their exquisite pieces, and in turn support our educational outreach programs,” said BAFTA Los Angeles’ Executive Director, Donald Haber. After all, there are few industries as deeply connected than fashion and film. Let’s just hope some of the celebrities in attendance took notice of a fresh face or two and will keep that in mind come awards season proper in the spring.
