Last night, I checked out the What Goes Around Comes Around Pop Up shop within the Ashley Turen Boutique at 85 Stanton street in NYC. What first struck me was the eclectic look of the outside of the store and the huge doorknob. Charlotte Ronson, Timo Weiland, and Seth Weisser and Gerard Malone from WGACA were all in attendance. Hors d’oeuvres and dessert were by David Burke. (DELICIOUS!)

Ashley Turen is very well known for hand painting amazing one-of-a-kind designs on fashions ranging from vintage leather jackets and Levi’s to Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Balenciaga bags. The boutique is really interesting, with everything from a yogurt stand to really well curated designer pieces.
What Goes Around Comes Around, known for having some of the best Vintage finds in the world along with their own line which launched several seasons ago to rave reviews, has a fabulous new pop up shop located in the back of the boutique.

I had a chance to chat with Ashley about her store and the collaboration with WGACA.
Cannon: How do you curate the store?
Ashley Turen: We are a one stop shop; men’s, women’s, vintage and gifts & housewares. It is a very curated mixture of outerwear to vintage black tie dresses to jeans and converse. I shop by instinct. Often; I will go up to someone on the LES and ask who they are wearing. I do go to the Fashion Shows but feel I buy for myself and what I think people should wear. I do not really follow trends.
C: How do you think street style affects fashion?
AT: I think every designer looks to the street for inspiration, I know I do! Especially here in the LES, there are so many well dressed and interesting people.
C: I love to watch street style walk by! So many amazing outfits. And some really out there, too. Sometimes there is a sense of bravery with one wearing an outfit and most pull it off.
C: Was it hard opening during a recession?
AT: I opened last Spring in the height of the recession, and it was tough, but we have so many unique one-of-a-kind pieces and we have something for everyone. Usually, a customer will come back to get the one-of-a-kind item after realizing there is only one!
C: How did this collaboration come about?
AT: I thought about it! Called them up and made it happen. It all happened organically and very quickly!!! I couldn’t be more thrilled to have my favorite source for vintage inside my store’s walls. I’ve always had an affinity for What Goes Around Comes Around and this partnership allows me the ability to extend that appreciation to my customers. I love vintage and antiques and it seemed like a perfect fit. I gained access to WGACA’s huge archive and I was a kid in a candy store and I was freaking out! They have such a huge archive of some really amazing pieces.
“WGACA is very excited to be part of the A. Turen concept. Ashley has been a long time fan of our store and we look forward to creating an exciting element to her business,” says What Goes Around Comes Around co-founder Gerard Maione.
