Last week’s launch party was filled with fashionistas putting their own spin on Wu clothing, including Blake Lively wearing a chic black trench, Emmy Rossum, Chloe Moretz, Jaime King, Top Chef guru Gail Simmons, and Shanina Shaik. Chloe looked so cute and epitomized the collection – it was almost as though it was all made for her! Her outfit was handpicked by Wu; a long sleeved sheer white blouse with a black bow and pleated skirt was simply darling!
A shopping frenzy soon ensued; cash registers crashed and people literally grabbed clothes out of the Pop-Up store clerks’ hands! The lines were out of control; I spotted Vogue‘s Sarah Brown, Sofia Sanchez, and Laura Slatkin From Nest candles (who Wu just collaborated with on an amazing candle) and stunning model Nell Rebowe. And from what I heard, people were lined up for a few hours before the party began.
Wu, the most gracious host, was dancing the night away while being greeted by editors and starlets and assorted fashionistas. We spoke about the Target collection:
“When Target, approached me with this unique opportunity, I couldn’t turn it down. I felt really comfortable with them. For years, I avoided doing a mass line. After meeting Target, I felt inspired to do it and it felt right. So I said, why not?
I was very specific. I didn’t want to replicate any part of my collection verbatim. I wanted to design a new collection that had my aesthetic and touch but was very much made for Target and could stand on its own.
I was inspired by the French New Wave films, actresses like Jean Seberg and Anna Karina. That nonchalant chic and effortless style, mixed with American sportswear. Call it ‘American girl in Paris.’”
Wu’s love for cats is evident throughout the branding of the collection and in the TV commercial which revolves around Milu the cheeky cat who gets into Jason’s studio and essentially, through a series of mishaps, ends up designing the collection.
Next up for Wu? His never disappointing fashion show on February 10 at New York Fashion Week. The Jason Wu for Target collection debuts on February 5, be sure to check it out!

The décor was very French chic and everything was painted like French buildings, with French street lamps and little French café chairs and tables everywhere. Laduree had a counter serving its fab multi-colored macaroons, and the wine and champagne was overflowing everywhere. Milu the cartoon cat was prancing all around Parisian rooftops at the party.

DJ Harley Viera-Newton was spun fab tunes until French pop band Yelle brought down the house with a great performance whilst wearing Wu’s Milu the Cat shirt.

"I'm very proud of him. If you look at it, it looks expensive. The material is good and the prices are affordable. I think he's doing fashion a justice by doing things like this. It allows people who can't afford the real Jason Wu Collection to go out and put on the other Jason Wu Collection. It's more affordable and gives everyone a chance to have a piece of Jason Wu!”

"The Jason Wu for Target Collection is so cute it makes me wish I was a cute young ingenue so I could wear it, but unfortunately I'm a middle aged housewife. I can enjoy watching the girls I work with all wear it. So I'll live vicariously through them.”
