Mulholland’s third collection, Tropical Rebel, takes a step in a darker direction, evident mostly in the moody color palette. Her obsession with surf culture manifests itself in a dramatic shark print called ‘Great White’, a tie-dyed incarnation of the formerly menacing Jaws. Those signature 90s cuts including minis, high-rise waists, and cropped everything are complemented by cut-out mesh and tough chokers, inspired by old school Courtney Love and films like The Craft (Tavi, eat your heart out).
The collection also marks Mulholland’s first foray into menswear. She’s had male customers before in the form of DONDA mastermind and notorious womenswear enthusiast Kanye West, who bought a backpack from her SS 11/12 range, but neon-inclined guys can now turn heads while cutting a masculine silhouette.
Tropical Rebel will be available in limited numbers and sold exclusively through The Grand Social.
