Newly minted CFDA member Araks Yeramyan is a unique talent whose collection, ARAKS, a line of luxury intimates, first launched in the Spring of 2000. Since, ARAKS has grown to include Ready-to-Wear pieces and organics all with her signature clean, feminine aesthetic that mix comfort and durability with fashion.
Yeramyan studied at the Parsons School of Design and has held posts at Marc Jacobs and J.Crew, before branching-out on her own. Her philosophy is often described as less-is-more and her collections blur the line between inner and outerwear.
The designer’s first foray into Ready-to-Wear was in the Spring of 2006 when she launched a capsule collection that was all about fluidity and glamour, but in an accessible and comfortable way.
She has said that she’s been inspired by Katherine Hepburn for her strong confidence and her laid-back glamour aesthetic.
Yeramyan has said that “Our skin responds to a sense of care that the finest of materials, the most thoughtful of design can provide. I believe that dressing begins with the touch, the pleasure and comfort of that first layer against the skin.” She adds, describing Hepburn, “the clothes are a mere extension of her character, her personality, her beauty, and her ideas. It is in the way she carries herself, with an air of confidence and style that define her.”
