Last season, the Toronto-based sophisticated clothing brand Pink Tartan nabbed Charlotte Free to stomp down its runway. While the preppy styling is always popular with consumers, it was the brand’s splashes of butterflies, cotton candy pink and pork pie hats that had fashionistas swooning.
Bustle at 8:30 p.m. on March 18
Bustle, by designer duo Shawn Hewson and Ruth Promislow, is one of the few menswear lines to show during Toronto Fashion Week. If you have a male in tow then it’s clearly the runway to check out as its signature style of gothic hipster isn’t just interesting, but damn cool.
Joe Fresh at 9:00 p.m. on March 20
Of course if you can only visit one fashion week show then make it the Canadian Goliath Joe Fresh. As the pocket-friendly brand prepares for its grand entrance into the U.S. market, this season’s collection is all the more important for generating buzz.
Soïa & Kyo at 6 p.m. on March 21
Soïa & Kyo offers a new range of inspiration for its casual 2013 collection, with a fresh twist on traditional tailoring, balancing folklore and future. Designer Ilan Elfassy says he was inspired by the urban traveler who effortlessly stands out from the crowd.
VAWK at 8:00 p.m. on March 21
A Project Runway Canada alum and one of the most celebrated new designers in Toronto, Sunny Fong, presents his latest VAWK collection, a mix of feminine silhouettes and stunning craftsmanship.
Travis Taddeo at 4 p.m. on March 22
Travis Taddeo has a loyal following among fashion risk-takers, owing in part to his unique aesthetic combining minimal lines and distinctive blends of silk, jersey, leather and fur. Taddeo offers simplicity with edge by creating a bold marriage between luxury and streetwear.
The Heart Truth Runway Show at 9 p.m. on March 21 (by invitation only)
Finally, other than the spectacular lineup of skilfully staged fashion walks, the glitzy soiree will also include The Heart Truth Runway Show, which aims to create awareness about heart health. The special event will feature notable personalities, from the worlds of stage, screen and sports, strutting stylishly on stage wearing crimson-hued ensembles. If you’re one of the lucky few invitees then it’s definite must-see, however, if you don’t receive an RSVP, you can check out the live stream.
