Haider Ackermann
The trend thus far in Paris seems to be oversized and layered, as perfectly exemplified by Haider Ackermann. No one does layering as well as Ackermann and it was hard not to look at the models and want to fall asleep wrapped in whatever it was they were wearing. Aesthetically, the somber quality of the designer’s dark color palette coupled with his long wrapped scarves, mismatched prints and mix of proportions – baggy pants, long layered outerwear pieces – made the models look almost as though they stepped out of an Emile Zola novel (or at least a luxe Hollywood take).

Issey Miyake
Menswear designer Yusuke Takahashi was inspired by a trip to Iceland for his collection this season, which translated into a series of nature references via spidery, digital-like patterns meant to reference volcanoes and glaciers. The brand’s signature fabric manipulating techniques – notably pleats – were shown via a series of psychedelic colored patterns.

3.1 Phillip Lim
Inspired by cowboys, Phillip Lim showed neckties, a sweater with a horse print, western shirts, fitted denim and coordinating button downs, riding pants and slightly pointed shoes – needless to say Versace’s cowboy this was not, but Lim still wholeheartedly embraced his theme. Silhouettes ranged from the oversized to the fitted, and while the bulk of the collection consisted of fashion-forward pieces, including ones fashioned out of conspicuous textured and high shine-fabrics, there were also some classic slim trousers and monochrome sweaters.

Raf Simons
This season’s Raf Simons collection was done in collaboration with artist Sterling Ruby, with whom Simons has been friends for nearly a decade. The resulting lineup was a sportswear-heavy collection brimming with artistic references – which worked best when presented against a black backdrop; multi-colored stripes on black outerwear, for example. In keeping with running trends this season, silhouettes tended to be oversized and looks were often shown layered.

Valentino
Valentino knocked it out of the park with a collection that perfectly balanced casual with after-dark wear and fashion-forward with classic pieces. Loosely draped outerwear and fitted denim were particularly strong this season and served to give a casual, but luxurious, bend to the collection.
