New York Fashion Week Fall 2014 Hits and Misses: Part 2 (Forum Buzz)

THE MISSES:

Altuzarra

“As someone who used to be a fan of [Joseph Altuzarra’s] work and initially believed in his talent, this collection comes out as a huge letdown. I am mostly bothered by three very important components which cheapen every look; firstly, the fabrics that were used for the outerwear which seem to ‘move’ a lot while in motion, which is not a good thing as they lose their shape; then the lack of design in the garments (take those plain pants, the potato sack dresses or the ‘bathrobes as coats’ for example) and thirdly, the color palette and the badly done colorblocking which makes everything seem very dated.” [dodencebt]

“If someone asked me what Altuzarra stands for, I would have no clue how to answer.” [Razzer]

“God, this is freakin’ hideous.” [dior_couture1245]

Prabal Gurung

“I really don’t know who his client is! He goes from A to Z, from fish to meat, from jazz to metal, from Chanel to Rick Owens, from Australia to Portugal… JESUS! Each collection is so different than the previous… this one is a bit of Armani, a bit of Givenchy… a bit of [Stella] McCartney… and BOOM you have a ‘collection’.” [miguelalmeida]

“Once again the ‘inspirations’ here are super obvious and it’s just very bothersome… as a whole this fails to impress me on any level.” [Psylocke]

“There’s no identity behind his brand, and at this point we can’t say he’s an emerging designer so there’s absolutely no excuse for it… I like the idea of mixing strong and urban contemporary silhouettes with tribal/Berber influences but the execution isn’t on point. Feels a bit messy and all over the place.” [Wolkfolk]

DKNY

“Everything about this is forced, from the casting to the styling. None of this feels natural.” [TREVOFASHIONISTO]

“It’s so gimmicky. Was DKNY always a punk-wannabe? The last few seasons it was very clean and sophisticated. Now this?” [MyNameIs]

“I actually liked the show itself, the way it began with that little film of young New Yorkers, how they’d arrived in the city, why, what their hopes and dreams were. For me, it was a nice link with the brand DKNY. That said… the collection itself doesn’t wow.” [Not Plain Jane]
