LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s Spring 2016: Maybe Being Basic Isn’t That Bad

Cosmopolitan cover star Lauren Conrad is known for her Pinterest-perfect lifestyle. Her website is filled with recipes for hemp heart smoothies (to be served in a mason jar, natch), boho braid tutorials and DIY pressed flower Easter eggs — all the things any girl who still wears Victoria’s Secret Love Spell and marked the date for the return of Starbucks’ pumpkin spice season dreams of.

Sure, Conrad’s aesthetic appeals to a certain type of woman — she’s your quintessential wealthy California girl-next-door with a heartland appeal and yes, she’s caught her fair share of flack for it. Last summer, Conrad found herself in a beauty feature in Allure magazine, which used a photo of her to illustrate “basic” women. It seemed like a slap in the face, but it appears Conrad has come to terms with who she is, or at least how the public perceives her. “I probably am pretty basic. But I’m also a pretty happy person, so that’s OK with me,” she recently told Cosmopolitan

And indeed, Conrad’s basicness seems to be treating her quite well. Last night, she debuted her LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s Limited Edition Runway collection, attracting FROW dwellers like Chrissy Teigen, Ashley Tisdale, Dylan Penn and more. There was lace, florals and ivory galore as well as a selection of flowing dresses that we couldn’t help but think would be great for a low-key bride on a serious budget. Think charming backyard wedding. There was a sprinkling of shimmer — we particularly liked a coppery sequined skirt which looked a little more holiday to us, but if LC can make it work for spring, so can we. Models donned milkmaid braids, free-flowing waves and curls, while a few sported messy ponytails, which we thought skewed to the wrong side of “woke up like this.”

But if Conrad’s latest for Kohl’s is what basic looks like, perhaps folks shouldn’t be all that insulted. By no means were the clothes groundbreaking, but they were definitely cute and we saw some pieces that we think would appeal to a lot of women. Heck, there were plenty of pieces that appealed to us. We have little doubt that fans of Conrad and fans of pretty, lacy pieces will eat this collection right up come springtime.
