Continuing in the tradition of Kenzo and Kate Spade, California-based denim brand AG’s Spring 2017 campaign push comes to us by way of a hilarious short entitled, “When in Paris.” The LOL-inducing three-minute video stars #influencer, designer, ballet-flat wearer and longtime AG collaborator Alexa Chung. Chung’s relationship with AG dates back to 2015 when the pair co-designed a collection of late 60s and early 70s-inspired overalls, mod dresses, high-waisted jeans and everyday tees. The Alexa Chung for AG collection generated such buzz that the brand asked Chung to front its Fall 2016 rollout. Suffice it to say Chung’s the epitome of the AG girl — denim (particularly of the vintage persuasion) obsessed, inherently cool, disarmingly geeky.
In addition to all these things, Chung is funny as hell. In the Spring 2017 campaign video (directed by Johnathan Crocker, AG’s VP of Global Communications) Chung attends a chic Parisian dinner party where she knows not a soul. And so she downs glasses of wine, hides on the balcony and sits at the dining table alone gnawing dubiously on radishes. (We’ve all been there.) Chung’s attempts at dinner conversation are almost painful to witness (and not because of her pronunciation, which is actually not bad at all). In spite of all this, the street style star walks away from the experience with a new friend (they bond over — you guessed it — fashion). The video ends with a clever, if consciously cheesy plug (Chung breaks the fourth wall/can’t keep a straight face as she delivers it). Do yourselves a favor and check out the full clip below.
Oh, and here’s Chung being equally charming and unfettered by the rules of social engagement in a 2015 promo for her Alexa Chung for AG collection. (She sings Stevie Nicks’ “Blue Denim” karaoke-style at a party, because karaoke makes everything better.) Happy #tbt, y’all.
