This month, there seemed to be a record-breaking number of horribly styled magazine covers. From Cindy Crawford to Gigi Hadid to Scarlett Johansson, not even some of the biggest names and most flawless complexions could save March’s poor fashion choices. On the plus side, there were a number of beautiful model shots and refreshing cover stars, including Sofia Coppola and Donatella Versace.
It was also a notable month for diversity with Valentina Sampaio getting an international Vogue cover (making her the first-ever transgender woman to get a Vogue Paris cover), Naomi Campbell scoring a solo cover and American Vogue celebrating its version of diversity with seven cover models, including Ashley Graham and Liu Wen.
Here’s a look at all the not-to-be-missed March 2017 fashion magazine covers.
The Glossies: All the March 2017 Covers We Loved and Hated
Harper's Bazaar Spain
When you’re photographing a beauty like Christy Turlington Burns — in leather Christian Dior no less — there are no frills required. What a perfect classic studio shot.
CR Fashion Book
The impact of having hijab-wearing model Halima Aden on the cover would have been more potent had there not been a second cover with Paris Jackson.
The Gentlewoman
Sometimes an interesting subject is all it takes.
Vogue Germany
That hat! This perfectly styled cover is exactly what a highbrow fashion magazine should look like.
Vogue Spain
This polka dot ruffled Dolce & Gabbana seems tailor-made for Vogue Spain.
Sports Illustrated
As is usually the case with the annual Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue, swimsuit is used loosely. But we love the magazine for putting the focus on curvier models this year.
Teen Vogue
A refreshingly natural cover for a teen-oriented glossy.
Vogue Russia
Irina Shayk works it in an Intimissimi bra top and Chanel jacket.
POP Magazine
Those eyebrows! This is all the inspiration you need to put down the tweezers.
Porter
Can someone give Natalia Vodianova a hairbrush?
Allure
Is this a photograph or a painting? Either way, we're not buying Allison Williams as a platinum blonde.
ELLE
Talk about oddball styling for a spring cover.
Vogue
We love seeing top models on the cover of Vogue — especially when some diversity is involved — but a less generic pose would have made this group shot even better.
Vogue Paris
Valentina Sampaio is the first-ever transgender woman to appear on the mag's cover and the shot is as mesmerizing as you’d hope.
Town & Country
Love her or hate her for it, Naomi Campbell just oozes diva.
Vogue UK
What we'd do for our skin to glow like this...
Harper's Bazaar
Rihanna goes blonde for this smoldering cover shot.
Glamour
Carefree or cheesy? Your call...
InStyle
People seem to love to hate Emily Ratajkowski, but it's hard to deny how effortlessly sexy she looks on this 90s-inspired cover.
Marie Claire
Not even Scarlett Johansson's lush lips and mesmerizing gaze can save this cover from its awful styling.
Vogue China
And the poor styling continues...
Vogue Australia
Cindy, is that you?
W
While it was a nice surprise to see a mix of models, designers and celebrities — Donatella Versace, Taraji P. Henson, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Chastain and Kate Moss — the shot has an unfortunate copy/paste feel.
Harper's Bazaar en Español
Poor Jessica Alba had all the personality Photoshopped from her face.
Glamour South Africa
Kerry Washington looks beautiful but was this patchwork dress the best they could do?
Harper's Bazaar Greece
Toni Garrn looks natural and fresh-faced in this portrait shot.
Marie Claire South Africa
Natalie Portman's styling is trying way too hard to be edgy.
