When Hood By Air abruptly canceled its Fall 2017 presentation days before its March 5 slot, we knew something was a(double-faced-shoe-wearing)foot. On Thursday afternoon, a rep for the buzzy streetwear brand confirmed our worst fears: HBA co-founders Shayne Oliver and Leilah Weinraub are putting the brand on hiatus, effective immediately.
Shayne Olivier will be focusing on his new gig at Helmut Lang, where he’s designing a special men’s and women’s capsule collection, due out this September. Leila Weinraub, the company’s chief executive officer, will be working on her film and directorial career. (Her latest project, Shakedown, will feature in the Whitney Biennial in May.)
Don’t worry — all is not lost. At the close of their statement, Olivier and Weinraub assured fans that “HBA will continue to fulfill its creative vision in the near future.” In the meantime, we’ll miss their porn-inspired beauty looks and gender-fluid designs. (As will Rihanna, Kanye West and A$AP Rocky, we imagine.)
