It appears Chanel’s double C-branded rocketship has the ability to pass through space and time. For Chanel’s Resort 2018 presentation, Karl Lagerfeld transported the fashion flock to Greece — circa the Athenian Empire. (A nod to founder Coco Chanel, who was fascinated by the Ancient Greeks.) A Mediterranean sunset decorated the walls of Paris’ Grand Palais, Ionic columns rose from its sandy flooring. No cruise ships were booked, no exotic locales (technically) visited, and still Chanel’s “La Modernité de l’Antiquité” collection got our feet itching. We now require tickets to Athens (and Mykonos) and a summer wardrobe filled with breezy, Aphrodite-worthy dresses.

Ionic columns and a Greek sunset set the stage for a goddess-filled show. Lagerfeld muses Mica Arganaraz, Kiki Willems, Binx Walton, Lindsey Wixson, Amanda Sanchez, Vittoria Ceretti and Arizona Muse were among those who walked.

Per usual, Lagerfeld paid sartorial homage to his "locale" of choice. Chanel's Resort 2018 collection combined the old with the new: draped goddess dresses shared the runway with crocheted cream suiting and embellished see-through capes.

Karl Lagerfeld's headband obsession is still holding strong. Some referenced laurel wreath crowns, others came in simple silks.

The accessories were not by any means minimalist. Chokers, pendant necklaces, statement shades, outsize earrings and latticed leather arm cuffs gave the Antiquity-inspired designs a modern touch.

The models wore knee-high gladiator sandals in black, yellow, orange, pink and teal. P.S. Forget stilettos and block heels — Ionic column heels are where it's at. Ancient Greek Sandals , take note.

Chanel Resort 2018 Review #10
“The criteria of beauty in ancient, then classical, Greece still hold true. There have never been more beautiful representations of women. Or more beautiful columns. The entire Renaissance, in fact, was based on antiquity," said Lagerfeld of the inspiration behind the collection, adding, "It is really about the youth of the world in all its power and unpredictability." Thus, Lagerfeld filled his front row with the next generation of It girls, including Nocturnal Animals star Ellie Bamber.
