Pyer Moss was announced the winner of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund 2018, given to emerging talents to help them pave the way to become fashion leaders. Founder of the brand, Kerby Jean-Raymond, accepted the award of $400,000 last night. Emily Adams Bode of menswear brand Bode and womenswear designer Jonathan Cohen took home the runner-up prizes of $150,000 each.
Launched in 2013, Pyer Moss had a mission to build a narrative that speaks about heritage and activism, particularly for the black community. The brand was named one of Vogue’s Best Collections for Spring 2019 for a collection that was inspired by black culture (along with a runway that featured only models of color).
“At a time when our world faces so many challenges, I’m impressed by this year’s winners,” Anna Wintour said. “Their work highlights a high degree of creativity and a deep-rooted commitment to the notion of community. They’re not only a credit to the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund as it celebrates its 15th anniversary, but also to the optimism and inclusivity of the very best American fashion.”
Pyer Moss’ winning piece for CFDA/Vogue was a dress inspired by artist Mickalene Thomas. The dress was a collage of over 10 layers of custom-made organza and silk prints, hand-beading and crystals.
Congrats to Pyer Moss! We can’t wait to see what the future has in store.
