While summer is still in full swing, we’re starting to get our first real taste of fall. That’s because the September issues have finally dropped. Unfortunately, if you’re looking for fashion inspiration to get you excited for the change of season, you’ll probably be disappointed.
This year’s September issues not only feature lackluster cover choices, there are no standout fashion moments. Worse yet, the most memorable looks are only memorable because they’re so bad. And it would have been nice if more magazines showcased some diversity on the size, gender and racial fronts for the biggest issues of the year.
Check out the slideshow above for a look at some of the best and worst September 2019 covers.
All the September 2019 Magazine Covers We Loved and Hated
-
Vogue
Vogue could have come up with something better than this Taylor Swift shot.
-
InStyle
Julianne Moore always brings the drama on camera and down at the newsstands.
-
Marie Claire
Cara Delevingne looking fresh-faced and gorgeous. We're not even mad that this cover is fashion-free.
-
ELLE
There's not much fashion involved in this Angelina Jolie shot, either. But it's simply gorgeous.
-
Harper's Bazaar
While it's not a particularly memorable shot of Alicia Keys, it's refreshing that the magazine didn't Photoshop her curves.
-
Allure
It's great to see a bold, graphic makeup look on the cover of a beauty magazine.
-
Vogue UK
Were it not for Meghan Markle's gimmicky guest editing gig, this would be totally unremarkable. And the checkerboard layout makes this look more like an ad than a glossy cover.
-
Vanity Fair
The comically oversized jacket ruins what could have been a decent shot of Kristen Stewart.
-
Harper's Bazaar UK
Natalie Portman nails Old Hollywood glamour.
-
Vogue Japan
While it's always great to see a model shot (in this case featuring Rebecca Leigh Longendyke, Hikari Mori, Anok Yai, Adut Akech, Kris Grikaite and Fran Summers), this looks pretty awkward.
-
Vogue Germany
Adut Akech showing off her stunning beauty in perfect-for-fall fashion.
-
Vogue Russia
Not exactly inspiring on the fashion front, but it's still a nice shot of Sara Grace Wallerstedt.
-
Harper's Bazaar Australia
Carolyn Murphy is the poster child for aging gracefully and beautifully.
-
ELLE Germany
Julia Stegner looking retro chic.
-
Vogue Poland
Is this Luna Bijl shot making anyone else crave jam?
-
ELLE Japan
Maryna Linchuk looks stunning decked out in all the right accessories.
-
Cosmopolitan Netherlands
Another reason why we don't rely on Cosmopolitan for cutting edge fashion.
-
ELLE Canada
A truly romantic shot of Stephan James and Winnie Harlow.
-
Marie Claire Netherlands
Chiara Ferragni stars on this rather muted cover.
