New York Fashion Week Spring 2021 has wrapped and what a season it was. We definitely didn’t know what to expect given the absence of Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs and more. (Clearly all thanks to the ongoing health crisis .)
The remaining designers showed off their Spring 2021 offerings in varying ways. Some embraced the traditional runway format. Whereas others opted for videos or lookbooks. First, Jason Wu kicked things off with a rooftop presentation starring an all-star cast. We’re talking Indya Moore , Grace Elizabeth along with Hanne Gaby Odiele. Then all eyes were on Omar Salam’s beautifully executed Sukeina collection. We’re starting to wonder who actually buys Anna Sui anymore. And Tom Ford finished things off with a collection full of bold colors and prints.

Hits and Misses NYFW Spring 2021
HIT: Ulla Johnson
"Stunning collection. Ruffles and floral patterns don't normally go together without looking corny and yet Ulla Johnson made it tasteful and signature. Mad about her proportions, especially on the skirts/dresses, and the closing look actually is the best of the lot." [Benn98 ]
"Stunning indeed. Don't know if it was the rooftop setting which felt like a breath of fresh air among all this uncertainty during NYFW, but this is without a doubt one of the stronger collections over recent days." [vogue28 ]
"Working with similar trends as everybody else, but definitely better than what we've seen so far: well styled, actually designed and distinctive colors. My favorite has to be the blouse with a geometric pattern and a powder pink belt cinching it at the waist." [YohjiAddict ]

MISS: Jason Wu
"I just don't see the point in wasting all that money on a fashion show when the clothes look like they could be one of Zara's weekly drops. It's wearable, none of it is offensively ugly, but it's just too boring and pedestrian for an entire fashion show." [aracic ]
"So basically Banana Republic but on a runway." [GoldenPetals ]
"If you're willing to put people at risk to put on a show, make it a damn good one." [mathiaskatz ]

HIT: Naeem Khan
"This looks like vintage Halston circa 1974." [dfl-001 ]
"The light blue dress with a cape is stunning." [Urban Stylin ]
"A well-edited collection if you ask me and as a whole felt cohesive when clicking through the images via Vogue 's website. All the looks seemed perfectly positioned and each transitioned well. Not the most groundbreaking collection, but very nice nevertheless (love the cross-front leopard dress)." [vogue28 ]

MISS: Tom Ford
"What a disappointment from Tom. Without Marc, his was the only New York collection I've been looking forward to and it turned out to be a massive letdown. From the photography to the clothes, it looks like bootleg Roberto Cavalli. Dreadful!" [aracic ]
"Looks like any random emerging label with several Gucci by Tom Ford pics on their mood board just to dilute all of his previous work into generic clothes. Sad to see this. Feels like Studio 54 about to close, smells of decadence everywhere." [jeanclaude ]
"This is honestly trashy." [Ghesquiere32 ]

HIT: Tomo Koizumi
"Despite not being the most groundbreaking of creations, Tomo Koizumi's creations have felt like a breath of fresh air during NYFW! All those huge dresses are like nothing we've seen over recent days — some drama and theatrics, at the very least." [vogue28 ]
"It's fun! And that's good because most other fashion brands don't have that quality these days." [aracic ]

MISS: Badgley Mischka
"Wasn't this a location for The Age of Innocence ? That's the only intriguing thing about this very uninspired lookbook." [YohjiAddict ]
"People are so obsessed about the golden age of American fashion, these two could easily recapture that. And yet we get a catalog collection that appears to have been lifted from a motley crew of designers, namely Pierpaolo Piccioli and Giambattista Valli. The patterned looks and the dress with tassels are absolutely hideous." [Benn98 ]
"All these designers seem to be designing for Instagram influencers, vloggers and the people that follow them." [Urban Stylin ]

HIT: Snow Xue Gao
"I love the tartan coats with the floral binding, something nice about the contrast." [Urban Stylin ]

MISS: Anna Sui
"Looks like a watered-down version of Coach by Stuart Vevers." [Malaya ]
"This is quite dull and once again nothing to set it apart from the other 20 similar shows we've already seen this season." [YohjiAddict ]

HIT: Sukeina
"Well this is certainly intriguing! Never heard of this brand before." [Salvatore ]
"Never been a fan of volume...but it's tastefully executed here!" [jeanclaude ]
"For me, this is the definition of high fashion. The collection was full of interesting and explosive volume, beautiful colors and textiles and new innovative ideas. This may very well be the best showing in New York this season. Nearly everything about the collection was captivating." [Fulton St Critique ]

MISS: Marchesa
"The elements in the presentation distract from the clothes." [Urban Stylin ]
"I find it more than a little disconcerting that they are continuing this brand, is there really anyone who would still wear this after all that's happened?" [donyan ]
