Back in March, several whole days had not even passed before Alessandro Michele was announced as Pierpaolo Piccioli‘s successor at Valentino. At first, we were of the understanding the wait for Michele’s debut collection would not occur until September during the Spring 2025 season of Paris Fashion Week – until now. A mere two months into the top job at the storied luxurious Italian fashion house, Michele astounds the fashion world by dropping Valentino’s Resort 2025 collection on the last day of Menswear Milan Fashion Week – with his signature aesthetic written all over it. Titled “Avant les Débuts”, the mixed-gender lineup boasts a total of 171 ready-to-wear looks, The rich Valentino archives ultimately became a starting point for inspiration, with a series of ladylike looks paying homage to Valentino Garavani’s breakout white collection from 1968.

“The styling feels super old and passé. I don’t hate that he went for a very pretty, romantic and even corny approach, it can be cute sometimes in the accessories, but it just feels so dated. I feel he will burn Valentino as much as he burnt Gucci. ” [Creative]
“I hate a designer incapable of adapting his vision to a house.” [GivenchyAddict]
“It’s his first collection and it already feels tired and all over the place, just like at the end of the Gucci tenure. I don’t get how it’s a good idea to throw million products at once.” [avonlea002]
“Gucci 2.0. Pretty much what I was expecting, still disappointed though.” [WinstonH20]
“Whoever wished Pierpaolo Piccioli out deserves to be dressed like this for the rest of their days.” [bc collector]
“I like it, basically the same as Gucci but I’m not complaining. Interested to see where he brings the brand over the next few seasons.” [callmejaden]
“It’s definitely not my style, but it could have been worse. There’s no Mickey Mouse or Adidas. Many good looking desirable items.” [NakedAndAfraid]
“Some very beautiful pieces that evokes the romanticism of Valentino.” [Lola701]
