Broome + Bow: New Upstart Offers Subscription-Based Closets

Broome + Bow is currently a beta site where, for only $49 a month, you get shipped a box filled with three to five fashion goodies that are valued at well over $300. You fill in an online style profile of your various tastes so that each new box is personally tailored and filled with designers like Theory, Clover Canyon and Clare Vivier, as well as upcoming designers you have yet to try. All month long you’ll be able to test drive the items you’ve been sent and then, depending on your experience,  you can return the clothes with the pre-paid package provided or purchase them from Broome + Bow for 20% less than retail.

The idea is to coax customers out of their comfort zone, to wean them into trying styles they wouldn’t ordinarily pick for themselves with no commitment (Boyfriend jeans? Leather crops? Leopard print brogues?). It also keeps your closet (and Instagram!) fresh, giving you the chance to indulge in disposable designer trends without the heavy price tag.

So who came up with this novel new idea? Well, Anila Akram and Laura Lampe are the women behind Broome + Bow and, while they currently live in New York, the pair are born and raised Canadians. To date, they have customers all over the country, from Toronto to Newfoundland, though the pair are admittedly still working day jobs while getting Broome + Bow off the ground.

I have yet to personally try out the service, but am incredibly curious as to what bang you get for your buck. Would you shell $49 a month for a box? If you already have experience with the company, then do post your comments below!
