The bride wore a strapless Vera Wang gown with a wide jewel-encrusted band at the waist, as she was escorted down the aisle by her father, former President Bill Clinton (putting to rest the rumors that she was going to opt for Oscar de la Renta).
Mezvinsky wore a suit designed by Burberry creative director Christopher Bailey. The bridesmaids wore Vera Wang, and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton opted – predictably so – for a berry colored Oscar de la Renta gown.
Bailey and Wang were two out of only 400 guests at the wedding – the rule was that all invited guests had to be personally familiar with Chelsea Clinton.
Joining the two designers were Oprah, Bono, Barbra Streisand, Jay Leno, Ted Danson, and Mary Steenburgen, among many other A-listers.
The wedding, which took place in glass-walled tents on the grounds of the Astor Courts estate in Rhinebeck, New York, has been estimated to have cost between $2 and $5 million (and we’re guessing that aside from the $15,000 port-a-potties, a great deal of that amount went towards security).
Renowned Boston-based event planner Bryan Rafanelli orchestrated the event. Among the details that have come out thus far are that Winston Flowers and Jeff Leatham, the artistic director of the Four Seasons Hotel George V in Paris, did the floral arrangements, the St. Regis catered the reception, and that La Tulipe Dessert baked a gluten-free wedding cake for the affair.
As for security, it was tight as can be – at the request of the Secret Service, the FAA declared the area above Astor Courts a no-fly zone below 2,000 feet this past weekend, so we’re guessing that the images and details that come out in the days to come will be strictly controlled by the Clinton camp.
