Macy’s at Herald Square recently rolled out the pink carpet for the relaunch of Material Girl, the clothing line designed by Madonna and her 13-year-old daughter, Lourdes Leon. The VIP party for Material Girl, exclusively sold at Macy’s, had a live presentation.
Madonna wore a belted black dress with a bondage strap across the bottom of the skirt. Lourdes Leon, better known as Lola, sported a studded motorcycle jacket, black dress, plaid shirt, and ripped tights. The face of the campaign, Gossip Girl’s Taylor Momsen, donned a strapless black mini dress, high boots, and simple jewelry.
Madonna’s role in the collection included giving guidance to budding-designer daughter Lola, and photographing Momsen for the Macy’s Material Girl campaign. Madonna encouraged Lola’s personality to be reflected in the collection.
Lola, with her keen eye for street style fashion, found designing to be a natural fit for her. Her love for 80s fashion suited the name of the collection well. She listed Taylor Momsen, Lady Gaga, Alexander McQueen, Alexander Wang, and – of course – her mother, as inspirations for Material Girl.
The mother-daughter duo collaborated to develop Lola’s style and creative juices, while adhering to Madonna’s strict guidelines on keeping things age-appropriate. The line was about layers, simplicity, and not overdoing an outfit. A tough, yet girly look was created by mixing leather with sequins, plaids with lace.
Material Girl is geared to girls who like to move, dance, be functional, and who have a sense of humor. The collection offers a range of clothes, accessories, and shoes.
