Louis Vuitton has been on a roll lately – between wrapping their flagship New York City store in a vinyl Takashi Murakami print and shooting their upcoming campaign with Madonna, to doing an homage collection to the late designer and artist Stephen Sprouse, the French powerhouse is now unveiling a Sofia Coppola-designed handbag and shoe collection.
WWD has released two photos thus far of the collection which will hit stores in March. As of yet, though it’s always hard to tell from photographers, the pieces don’t look all that promising to me and seem to have relatively uninspired designs.
The collection was unveiled in Tokyo, a place obviously close to Coppola’s heart as it was the setting of her movie “Lost in Translation.” The capsule collection consists of slouchy duffle bags, clutches, and retro wedge sandals. The signature of the collection, the SC Bag, comes in four versions — one in dark gray suede, two in calf leather in dark blue and burgundy, and one in LV’s signature monogram canvas. For evening, Coppola designed four slender compact clutches with buckles resembling the closure on Vuitton’s classic trunks, while when it came to shoes she tells WWD that she was eager to craft “a heel you can really wear all night and it’s comfortable but still looks chic.”
The collection will hit stores in March.
