While New York Fashion Week provides plenty of eye candy on the runways, it’s the covetable style perched in the front row that really turns our head. Whether they be actresses, musicians, stylists, editors, bloggers or any other fashion dignitary, showgoers sometimes outshine the collections and, in the process, provide a wealth of inspiration for students of style. The lessons we learned this season involve everything from how to recalculate the equation for pajama dressing during the daytime to new ways to spell out our love of logos and fresh game plans for working athleisure into our office wardrobe. Dying to try out the pajama trend in the daylight? Diane Kruger had the right idea by wrapping up her silky co-ords with a wide black belt, which tied in rather nicely with her skinny black choker.

Camilla Belle’s front row look while taking in the Tory Burch show has us longing for spring. Her pussybow blouse and coordinating skirt were charming enough, but adding in a green cardigan, nude pumps and a fuchsia lip sealed the deal.

Doutzen Kroes at Sies Marjan
We’re all too familiar with the whole draped jacket concept, but Doutzen Kroes demonstrated how unveiling just one shoulder can deliver maximum impact. The model balanced things out with a comfy neutral sweater, a shiny orange skirt and hefty black platform boots.

Naomie Harris’ two-piece plaid ensemble was certainly crowd-pleasing, but we’re far more impressed with how she styled her sleek white jacket. A long patterned bandana works wonders as a scarf, as long as it’s in the same color family as your coat.

Olivia Palermo gave us a lesson in texture by combining a furry navy patterned jacket with a ribbed camel cut-out sweater and distressed jeans. You don’t have to rock a complete set of PJs to embrace the trend. Sofía Sanchez de Betak, one of our street style stalks, just opted for a pajama top styled with belted blue jeans, a brown fringed shawl, a gold statement pendant necklace and a set of snakeskin boots that may just be the coolest footwear of NYFW.

Sure, puffers are frequently praised for their exaggerated silhouettes, but that doesn’t mean you can’t rein them in. Giovanna Battaglia did just that by cinching her red quilted version with a belt, giving it the illusion of an outsize cardigan to top off her black shirt and fur-trimmed patterned skirt.
