Houston Native/National Treasure Beyoncé Vows to Help Victims of Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey, now a tropical storm, has wreaked havoc since making landfall in Rockport, Texas last Friday. Over 30 inches of rain have fallen, causing the worst flooding in Texas history. Many have lost their homes, hospitals have been destroyed, thousands are without power and, as of today, at least 14 people have died.

Hearteningly, many celebrities have come forward to pledge their support for those affected by the storm, among them is national treasure/Houston native/#BeyGOOD initiative founder Beyoncé. “My heart goes out to my hometown, Houston, and I remain in constant prayer for those affected and for the rescuers who have been so brave and determined to do so much to help,” Beyoncé told The Houston Chronicle on Monday. “I am working closely with my team at BeyGOOD as well as my pastor (Rudy Rasmus at St. John’s in downtown Houston) to implement a plan to help as many as we can.”

This isn’t the first time Beyoncé has come to the aid of her native city or the greater black community. In the past, #BeyGOOD has partnered with Turnaround Houston, which assists Houstonians “struggling to find work, especially those with a criminal record, and brings together entities that provide job training, mental health resources, educational services, as well as employers seeking applicants to satisfy their workforce needs.” #BeyGOOD’s also teamed up with United Way and UNICEF to help bring clean, safe drinking water to the people of Flint, Michigan and Burundi.

Beyoncé joins Kevin Hart (starter of the “Hurricane Harvey Relief Challenge”), Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, DJ Khaled, Nicki Minaj, Drake and more in their efforts to provide relief to the people of Houston.

I’ll donate 25K for Houston. Praying for everyone there. Great work @kevinhart4real
