When it comes to fashion role models, cases can be made for a few high-profile candidates. Cate Blanchett for her graceful yet somehow still boundary-pushing ensembles. Beyoncé consistently serves up plenty of attitude while successfully resurrecting fashions from days gone by. And Victoria Beckham models her own chic separates better than any model ever could. But there’s one celebrity tastemaker that dominated 2017: Rihanna.
The singer/actress/designer/beauty mogul topped Lyst’s year-end report as the biggest celeb fashion influencer of 2017 in the U.S. Not surprising since her outfit choices sent searches skyrocketing for Puma, Off-White, Molly Goddard, Gucci and RAEN. So for 2018, we’re pledging to be more daring (a la RiRi) when it comes to our fashion choices. Sure, others will probably declare a new dedication to fitness or getting organized, but we feel the need to focus first on our wardrobe, then tackle all that other stuff. Hey, we have a whole year.
Because we have HR to contend with and certain weather restrictions, we’re going to start by working in one Rihanna-approved outfit a month. Here’s a whole year’s worth of inspo above.

Our New Year's Resolution Is to Dress More Like Rihanna
-
January
Keep the glitter going long after New Year’s Eve by rocking a set of sparkly boots. Rihanna scored hers straight off the Saint Laurent Fall 2017 runway and toned them down with a graphic tee, black moto jacket, shredded jeans and oversized hoops.

February
Instead of capping off a ruffled gown with sandals or pumps, work in a pair of classic white sneakers. Futuristic shades suggested, but not mandatory.

March
Wrapping a printed scarf around a cap (particularly a Supreme one) is a chic way to stay toasty. The multihypenate then camouflaged her double denim ensemble with a hooded olive bomber that tied in nicely with those green platform shoes.

April
A LBD gets the glamleisure treatment with the help of a sporty colorblocked coat. Embellished semi-sheer socks (trending this year) and pointy white pumps (we already have in our closets) are the natural way to polish off the look.

May
While we won’t be wearing an exact replica of this crazy cool Comme des Garçons masterpiece to our next formal gathering, one of our resolutions is to try out new, exaggerated silhouettes. And find fresh ways to wear blush.

June
Rihanna showed how the West was won by wearing this white eyelet Christian Dior dress with one of the black boleros that dominated the brand’s Cruise 2018 runway. The addition of that starry bandana under the tilted hat is definitely one styling trick we’re keen to try.

July
Suiting up for a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, Rihanna layered a boxy dark blazer over gray pants boasting a back panel and a matching shirt. Sleek sandals balanced out the look and with slightly hemmed sleeves, this outfit is totally office-appropriate.

Millennial pink is still happening, even as Ultra Violet makes its way to the forefront, and we submit this flirty Nina Ricci as evidence. While we probably all have a little pink dress, we’ll have to keep on the lookout for a strong-shouldered cover-up and furry sandals.

September
We’ll be digging that black tank dress out of the closet so we can wrap it up with an outsize fanny pack, hopefully by Gucci. Throw in some hoops, a gold chain and open-air sneaks and we’ve found the perfect Sunday brunch look.

October
Checks are once again must-haves, especially Burberry’s infamous pattern. Double up with a coat and matching baseball cap (soon to be another fashion home run) combined with a black halter minidress.

November
Next time we head to the airport, we'll be matching our statement shades to our boots. Keeping the rest of the look super casual, a hooded bomber, black tee and relaxed pants will ensure a comfy trip.

December
Rihanna proved winter white is a thing, so embracing the shade from head to toe is our new seasonal mantra. A sculpted-sleeve jacket, over-the-knee boots and rectangular mirrored shades are prerequisites.
