Meghan Markle has been a royal long enough for us to launch a full-fledged inquiry into her most preferred lewks. And as unpredictable as the fierce mom-to-be is with her wardrobe choices, we have been able to determine one thing: Boy, does she love simple, solid colors.
From her unadorned, bottle green engagement reveal dress (by Italian luxe label P.A.R.O.S.H.) to everything she wore during her recent 16-day Australia and New Zealand tour, it’s pretty obvious that the duchess loves clear, defined palettes, preferably in dominating color schemes that revolve around subtle colors like dark blues, blacks, browns and dark greens and often pale neutral hues like blush and beige.
A number of reports claim that Meghan has been choosing neutral colors as a tactic so as to not upstage Queen Elizabeth, who is famous for her love of bright, popping colors. “The Duchess of Sussex is showing great consideration by wearing more neutral colors and tones when on duty with Her Majesty as it allows the Queen to take center stage and top billing, as is only right,” etiquette coach William Hanson told Harper’s Bazaar U.K. after Meghan wore a Prada pale blush number for the Young Leaders Awards this June.
But Meghan has been wearing solids almost everywhere, even when the queen was not present. This also makes Meghan’s style markedly different from her sister-in-law Kate Middleton. The Duchess of Cambridge has rocked every print from florals to polka dots and has even taught us a thing or two about pairing formal prints.
Meghan obviously switched up her style when she took on her new royal role and has explored a surprisingly austere color palette consisting of basic neutrals military and khaki colors. But that doesn’t mean her fashion has been even remotely stuffy or stale. So what are some of Meghan Markle’s best looks when it comes to solids? Let’s have a look.
