Oscar de la Renta Princess Headbands
Headbands are making a big comeback in the grown-up world. Celebrities like Charlize Theron and Michelle Williams are wearing them on the red carpet and top designers like Oscar de La Renta and Doo. Ri are showing them off at their fall 2012 collections. At Oscar de La Renta, eye-popping jewels including pearls, crystals, and diamonds adorned pretty satin headbands. These sparkly bands were just one of the many embellishments featured in the collection. They further added to a royal motif which included full-skirted ballerina dresses and frothy ball gowns.

Moschino Cheap & Chic Retro Bands
The headband trend showed further signs of global strength as it appeared again in Italy during Moschino’s Cheap & Chic Fall 2012 collection. Moschino’s 60s inspired lineup featured feminine patch work lace dresses, pastel colored pom-pom details, and crochet sweaters. Retro accessories like this thick grosgrain headband in pastel colors further completed the modern-day Audrey Hepburn look.

Marc Jacobs Dr. Seuss Furry Toppers
While Marc Jacobs showcased an over-the-top Fall 2012 collection overwhelmed with sparkles and layered with different fabrics and embellishments, the most memorable of the lineup were the oversized furry hats. Deliciously cozy, quirky, and somewhat kooky, the hats worn by every model at the Marc Jacobs show resembled the Dr. Seuss topper. Edwardian sized, these furry caps came in different colors. Some of the hats were bright and jeweled tones while others were more muted and sober, fitting the color palette of the apparel. With these gigantic playful hats, Marc Jacobs reminds us that fashion should never be taken too seriously.

Emilio Pucci's Restrained Fur Cap
For Fall 2012 Peter Dundas focused the Emilio Pucci collection with luxury details. Luxe accents dominated the bulk of the show including coats and shifts finished in textured croc, colored fur thrown carelessly over gowns, and black fur caps. The fur hats were styled over sleek straight hair, giving off both an elegant and rich vibe to the looks. A lot of the over-the-top details and luxe accents like this furry topper were sobered by an overwhelming black palette.

Missoni's Luxe Fluffy Cloche
Missoni’s furry hats fell somewhere in between the ones seen at the Marc Jacobs and Pucci shows. The furry caps complemented the collection’s more restrained and muted color palette as well as the house’s signature knitwear which were form-fitting and seductive. The accessories such as latex gloves, thin metallic belts, and these fur cloches added an extra luxe touch to a collection full of winter layers.

Ralph Lauren gets Downton Abbey-fied
The cloche hats used at the Ralph Lauren Fall 2012 show helped offset the strong menswear collection by providing a touch of femininity. These cloche hats which were done in dark brown, turquoise, and tweed gray epitomized the classic and sophisticated looks of the menswear inspired suits. These caps also helped reference the show's English countryside theme which was applauded by the audience throughout the Downton Abbey soundtrack. These muted face-framing cloches focused on the soft and elegant makeup used on the models.

Christian Dior’s Fall 2012 romantic collection was full of creamy pink full skirted silhouettes, frothy gowns, opera length gloves, and ballet-inspired ankle strap footwear. The soft gray beanie hats worn by some of the models not only added a touch of sophistication to the looks, but also sobered the strong ballerina references prevalent throughout the entire collection. These elegant caps looked modern as paired with ball gowns and evening wear, a winning combination that is sure to make a heavy appearances on both the red carpet and the fashion world.

Buberry's Countryside Cap Meets the Town
The heart of Burberry is and will always be the coat. And for Fall 2012, coats were plenty in the form of trenches, riding jackets, bombers, and field jackets and they came in wool, gabardine, herringbone, and tweed. These classic outerwear pieces were modernized with fur collars and slouchy pockets. The same went for the accessories. Burberry gray tweed caps were styled with studded gloves and fringed skirts, providing the perfect mixture of classic and modern. Styled over straight long hair, these caps gave off a boyish vibe, which looked perfect as coupled with the girly bows belting the trenches.

Empowering Top Hats at Ralph Lauren
While the Ralph Lauren show opened with menswear inspired suits from the English countryside, the direction of the collection diverged midway through the show as glossy black top hats came out accenting velvet smoking robes and cane suits. These sophisticated toppers are classic and pre-war inspired, but looked modern paired with jaunty plaid suits. And while these caps look a tad costume-y, their sleek elegance gave off an aristocratic vibe to the looks, which further empowered the female form.

Donna Karan's Stephen Jones Fascinators
Seductive menswear suiting was also prominent at the Donna Karan Fall 2012 collection. However, rather than using pre-war caps, Karan opted for elegant Stephen Jones fascinators and pill box hats to accessorize the looks. These chic hats were perched to the side of the head and were also used to accessorize the form-fitting dresses and evening gowns. Power dressing at its best.
