Fall Denim You Have To Have (Or Have To Hate) Now
-
Polished Dark Denim
Dark denim was polished and office-appropriate on the Spring 2013 Miu Miu runway (okay, except for the exposed midriff) and the trend is going to get even bigger for fall. Try a classic dark denim pencil skirt from LOFT, $59.50 or something a little trendier from Urban Outfitters, on sale for $49,99. But keep in mind denim in the office can be kind of controversial in more corporate environments.

Colorblock Denim
If you're not a fan of the denim tuxedo, avert your eyes. There's a new controversial denim style hitting the streets: colorblock denim. The Proenza Schouler skirt and jacket shown here are the most notable examples of the trend, and is currently sold out online, but you can get the look with this Volcom Color Blocked Denim Shirt, on sale for $29.99.

Striped
The black and white striped jeans that became so ubiquitous this summer are sticking around for fall. They get a little less uber-skinny distressed rocker and a little more urban chic. Both True Religion and Guess are coming out with stylish pairs this August, and you can get these 7 For All Mankind Coated Striped Cigarette Jeans ($198) now.

Hole-y Denim
Another controversial denim choice is what was originally called distressed denim, and has morphed a bit with the boyfriend jean, to combine into this sort of oversized jean with holes in it. Jeans that would once be reserved for yardwork are now being bought (expensively) off the rack looking about 20 years old, like these Current/Elliot Washed Cotton Driftwood Destroy Boyfriend Jeans ($315). Get the look more affordably with this pair from ASOS.

Levi's Revel
Combine classic with must-have with this sexy new line from the tried and trusted purveyor of denim. Advertising for the line launching in August reads: "Let Your Body Do the Talking." WWD compared the "liquid shaping technology" to a pair of Spanx in the form of a pair of jeans. We have one piece of advice: look out for muffin top.
