"In an effort to be strategic about my fall buys so I don’t end up with a bursting closet and emaciated bank account, I like to visit the fall collections at Barneys a few times before making any big investments. Amidst a strong season of bold colors, techno fabrics and gorgeous patterns, it’s the muted yet lush corner of Pas de Calais knits that has given me pause since the line hit the Madison Avenue store a few weeks ago; specifically the cocoon coat. This wool blend boucle knit topper is designed in Northern France, produced in Japan, yet feels like a piece of heaven. Nothing fancy, but completely luxurious. Once the chill sets in, I don’t plan on taking it off. Until then, I highly suggest visiting Barneys, making a pile of Pas de Calais and giving it the ol’ cat jumping into a bean bag test. You’ll see why this collection is a must for anyone in cooler climates come October."

"This fall I am most excited for the coats, whether enormous shearlings or floor-dusting, fitted mohair. I have already ordered three coats for the season! I wish I could wear my coat inside my office because to me a fall coat is the chicest thing in the world. There were a lot of coats in interesting colors, or at least not black/navy/gray, which was fun. Proenza made one in Yves Klein blue (another trend that I'm dying for), Celine made a gorgeous white cocoon with a line of black fringe running up the back and I liked pale, wooly Tibi. Apiece Apart has some great options, too."

"I love artisanal fabrics with a lot of texture and colorful crafts created by hand, so I found the vein of craftiness in many of the Fall 2014 collections really exciting. Proenza Schouler did a chic frock in shades of rich burgundy and fleshy pink inspired by the offbeat ceramics of Ron Nagle at the Venice Biennale. The distinctive ombre of mid-century West German 'lava pottery' happily found its way into Derek Lam's 10 Crosby line. And Altuzarra's lushly fringed, flamingo-pink frock with tomato red was inspired by the 70s work of fiber-artist Sheila Hicks."
