If you noticed a surge of headwear on the New York runways for Spring 2015, chalk one up for the Brits. London-based master milliner Stephen Jones had a big hand in the head game stateside.
First, Donna Karan threw us all a curveball when she linked up with Jones on an assortment of towering chapeaux that brought to mind Pharrell‘s Grammy sensation. You know, the “mountain” hat that spawned its own Twitter parody. That, of course, was designed by Malcolm McLaren and had its coming out party in Vivienne Westwood‘s Fall 1982 collection called “Buffalo Girls (Nostalgia of Mud).”
But back to 2015. For his second showing at Thom Browne, Jones pulled out all the stops with 30 imaginative toppers ranging from a hollow, 3D handbag fascinator to a hat shaped like a badminton birdie. Our personal favorite was the milliner’s new take on a turban, inspired by the time he twisted a T-shirt on singer Kate Garner’s head in the 1980s. It doesn’t get easier than that.

Public School, Karen Walker, Cynthia Rowley Spring 2015
Unisex military caps popped up at Public School, and golden helmets ruled at Cynthia Rowley. But it was Karen Walker's gardening hats that had their day in the sun. After all, behind every great hat is a printed scarf. Or something like that.
