The design doyenne gave the bohemian staple a high fashion makeover over a year ago for her Fall 2014 collection, inspired by the 1972 film The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant. Soon after, street style stars like Alexa Chung adopted the trend and the silk accessory found its way into collections for Spring 2015 and Resort 2015. But it wasn’t until this fall that the skinny scarf solidified its place as the must-have accessory of the season, appearing on runways from Chloe to Haider Ackermann.
