NSFW Workwear
The dress code for Spring 2017 was "casually mind your business." The button-downs were mostly deconstructed, literally sweeping coats hung off of one shoulder or another like dreamy afterthoughts and dress pants were Frankensteined, paper-bag-waisted and layered in ways that would befuddle HR. All in all, the borderline work-inappropriate looks have us eager to take reimagined professional staples to the streets.

Countless designers made the case for head-to-toe tan. In most cases, immense cargo pockets were involved. In none of these instances did we mind. The more general takeaway is that coordinating sets, exaggerated proportions and military everything (from trench coats to Napoleonic jackets) are in.

Of the seemingly infinite patterns that walked the Spring 2017 runways, stripes were by far the most memorable. From Rosie Assoulin's sparkling rainbow rugby dress to the delicate lines favored by Monse and Jacquemus, a slew of designers updated the classic print. For Spring 2017, it was as if every bag that walked the runway had taken a bite of one of Alice's infamous "Eat Me" cookies. At Celine, Balenciaga, Ports 1961 and more, we saw gargantuan totes capable of carrying a week's worth of laundry. On the opposite side of the spectrum, petite pocketbooks popped up on many a catwalk, most notably at Louis Vuitton, where designer Nicolas Ghesquière downsized the brand's iconic Petite Malle silhouette into an iPhone case to the joy of luggage-lovers everywhere. Let's hear it for the little guys.
